Ipod Nano
Apple have anounce the release of the Ipod Nano, a full-featured iPod that can hold 1,000 songs yet is thinner than a pencil. The iPod Nano has a colour screen, a Click Wheel and storage capacity for 1,000 songs or 25,000 photos. The iPod nano is availablein a 4GB model (recommended pricing $249) and a 2GB model (recommended pricing $199). Both models are available in white or black designs.

Larger Ipod Shuffles
It has been reported that larger iPod Shuffles are on the way. ThinkSecret, an Apple entusiasts site, speculated that the announcements may be made at the Apple Expo Paris on September 20.

Ipod Mobile Phone
The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple may soon launch the new iTunes-capable mobile phone. It is also rumoured that Apple may introduce the new flash iPods which may replace the current iPod mini offerings. The new ipod mini's are said to be even thinner than the current model. The mobile phone may be launched with iTunes software to play and store digital music, according to press speculation.

Flash Ipod Mini
Apple is planning a flash based Ipod Mini. The new 4-GB version of Apple's iPod Mini digital-music player will employ a flash-memory drive rather than a micro disk drive. The flash drive will be supplied by Samsung. It has been rumoured that Apple is expected to have the Flash Ipod Mini in shops in time for the holidays. Apple is expected to ship between 3 and 6 million of the devices in the second half of this year.

Four Gig Mini iPod
The new four gig mini iPod is priced in the United States at $US199 ($253) while the six gig mini ipod player comes with a $US249 ($317) pricetag. Acording to Apple, both models have battery life of up to 18 hours playing time. They come in four colours. Apple also announced new lineups for its iPod photo models. A[[le has introduced the slim 30 gig iPod photo model that can hold up to 7500 songs, priced at $US349 ($444) and a new 60 gig model that can hold a virtual song library of 15,000 songs for $US449 ($A576). Apple said its photo models came equipped with high-resolution colour screens and that both models can hold up to 25,000 digital photos

Why Microsoft Should Abandon DRM
OK, so it's not directly related to the Ipod Mini, however there's an interesting blog entry regarding Cory Doctorow's speech. Excellent. I think DRM is going to lock everything down to hardware, and there is no demand for this - it's bad for everybody and will not work. You won't be able to play Windows Media Center WMA files on an iPod. It's going to reduce music to the platform. Hat-tip: Richard Giles weblog.
